Closing Remarks:
Sometime in very late December or very early 2012, we shall resume our campaign in North Africa. Shall we have the British attack an Italian box again, have the Italians retreat to the fortified line at the port of Bardia or?

I forgot the results of the last game. I dont think I played that one. Did the Italians hold off the Brits or did they get forced back? If the Italians held then they should defend the box again. If the Brits were able to put a reasonable ammount of pressure on teh Italians then I say they fall back to Bardia.
ReplyDelete"Given the dynamics of BKII I'm not sure why anyone would be desperate enough to attack a prepared position w/o a Monty style preponderance of force. That said, what do we see as the strategic situation? Are Mussolini or Churchill screaming for an offensive? It would seem that on the surface the Commonwealth would still look at the odds and be satisfied with the status quo, while the Italians aren't going to be prodded forward except at bayonet point. Dice roll?
ReplyDeletePerhaps a radical departure is in order for a game? A raid on a make-shift border fort (rather than a formal front) or on a supply depot/airfield/HQ/etc.? Exploring a potentially open flank? If we get back to a more fluid situation it might make the next frontal assault less.... demoralizing. Smaller commands, so may not be to the group's taste."

The BKCII book has several scenario ideas we could bring into play. Scenario 7 (Pursuit) might be interesting. The attacker has 50% more points than the defender. The defender has to exit as many of his units off the board as possible in 10 turns. The attacker must destroy as many units as possible.
ReplyDeleteScenario 9 (Breakout) is similar. Scenario 10 (Diversionary Attack) might be interesting as well.
Attacking entrenchments and defending from entrenchments was fun, but I think it's time for a different flavor of game. Many of the rulebook scenarios could be utilized in our campaign. What do you think?

To follow up on what Michael said, a couple smaller raid style games played together might be interesting as well. Would give me a reason to paint my LRDG trucks and SAS jeeps! I've got both sets Battlefront put out a few years ago. None painted. Battlefront is releasing new Italian raiding forces as well in a box set. They'd be fun to paint up. We could do simultaneous air hangar raids or raids on fuel depots.
